I Dare to Create... (pitch)

Community Block

Humans are social, but we cannot strive to develop those skills if we have to worry about our most basic needs like food, water, and shelter. At Community Block, we strive to empower people with a place they can call their own. We want people to live with dignity. We provide people with the tools to build a community in the physical and social sense.

The Brick
At Community Block, we have tackled the problem of housing for low income communities starting from its most fundamental piece, the brick. We have developed a new form of construction that uses recycled plastic materials to create building blocks. Our blocks do not use any binding materials to put together, making them easy to install. To produce them, we use recycled plastic from bottles and press them into a block that works like legos.

The assembling of a house with our product requires special but not complicated training, therefore we train a small group of people from the community on how to build using our system. By doing so, the commuity can reduce their construction cost, and they are equipped with the skills to grow in the future.

The House
Our blocks are used to build houses that are able to withstand the environment and work with other conventional building materials like zinc and concrete blocks. This building system uses recycled materials so it is a lot less expensive than other practices, allowing low income families to afford them as a construction method. The design allows for the house to adapt to its occupant's needs, while still maintaining stability.

The Street
We work with low income communities currently living in conditions below the standard of living. Therefore we work with a group of families that are in dire need. Our mission is to empower the community, so we don't just build houses at random. We organize the community providing space for future electric lines, water pipes and streets to fill in the gaps between buildings. By providing the foundations of well organized permament structures and the space between them we allow the community to grow, while not forcing them into a sudden change thay cannot afford and are not prepared for.

The Community
Through shelter, people gain security and a sense of belonging. Our company provides low income housing at a very reduced cost, and to achieve our vision, we look for investors to finance the construction as well as the own residents. By taking part in the financing of their own homes, we hope to inspire residents to feel proud of their achievents. Community is created by social interaction, our company wishes to foster this by getting the residents together to help each other achieve a common goal.
